This is
generally the first level of upgrade. It might encompass a single system, or
possibly multiple systems or components, on the machine. It generally infers
that the old troublesome items will be removed, and replaced with a newer
more modern version. The work is usually done on site with only a minimal
amount of offsite preparation of the new equipment. Some people in the
industry use the words recontrol and retrofit interchangeably, but here at
MTB we feel that there is a difference and we make note of it on our
correspondence with the our customers.
One such
example of a recent retrofit was on a older machine where we added one axis
of motion to a mechanical axis to allow for a more economical auto cycle. We
replaced the old pendant with a new one that had a small HMI to program the
servo motions with. See the pictures below.
